Alonso keen on number 14 his choice since his karting days

Fernando Alonso has confirmed that he has applied to the FIA to carry number 14 on his Ferrari from 2014 onward.
Alonso explained, “It’s always brought me luck, ever since I won at the age of 14, on 14th July in 1996, with a kart that had the number 14. Let’s see it if still brings me luck.”
From 2013 onwards, drivers will have the choice of which number they will carry throughout their career in Formula 1.
Since the FIA launched the selection process, requesting drivers to send in their top three picks between 2-99, it has already emerged that Sergio Perez is keen on number 11, Jean-Eric Vergne wants the iconic 27, Nico Rosberg has asked to carry number 6, Valtteri Bottas has 77 as his first choice, Felipe Massa has nominated number 19 and Kimi Raikkonen has picked the number 7.
The likes of Daniel Ricciardo and Romain Grosjean have decided to keep their choices private. The FIA are expected to release the list of new official numbers after the Christmas deadline. (GP247)
