In his traditional Christmas address to Ferrari employees, president Luca di Montezemolo urged his team to provide Fernando Alonso with a car capable of winning the Formula 1 World title while bidding a fond farewell to Felipe Massa.

Montezemolo said,“Over the past few years, Fernando has given his all and he deserves to have a competitive car with which he can win a World Championship with the Reds. I can understand his occasional moments of frustration, which we all share, but I am sure he is well aware [of] what Ferrari represents and because of that, he will be even keener to give it his best shot.”

There was also a special and emotional word for Massa, “It will do Felipe good to get out from Ferrari,” said Montezemolo.

“He will be back with new motivation, like footballers who change teams for a while before returning to their own. The doors of this company will always be open to a man and a driver of his quality. His name is linked to Ferrari I want to thank him for his contribution over the eight years he spent with us.”

The speech was interrupted by a long round of applause, ending with a standing ovation. There was much applause for Alonso and Massa too.

Montezemolo presented the Brazilian with an engine from the F2008, while Felipe gifted Montezemolo  the special red helmet dedicated to the team, which he wore in the last Brazilian Grand Prix as a Ferrari driver. (Ferrari)

Luca can be sure that if Ferrari can’t give Alonso a winning car in 2014 he will jump ship to McLaren when they get Honda engines in 2016!

  • Tamburello_1994

    Kimi who?

  • Hugo

Always with Alonso!!! What about Kimi? Stupid team…

  • Dr. Azlan

Kimi is the new guy. Will be hard for him to break the Massa-Alonso culture.

Just like it was hard for him to break the Shumacher-Massa culture sometime ago. The team will always go with what they are used to. Not often will they listen to a new guy.

The question that remains to be answered, is whether the car or driver failed to deliver in 2012 and 2013. While it’s a romantically popular notion that when Alonso fails its because his car let him down, it is not impossible to comprehend that the cars may have been competitive enough, but the driver is no longer on the top of his game compared to the 7 years younger champion. 33 years old is much closer to the end than the peak of modern F1 driver careers. Even Schumacher faded past 34, aided partly by tire rules changes. Further, Raikkonnen will be 35 in 2014. The changes in 2014 will be tough enough for the energetic kids to tangle with… can the old men pull it off? Or, has Ferrari set itself up to not realize the maximum from its cars capability by filling its seats with drivers past their prime?

  • StevetheGreat

What an a’hole. I can’t wait to hear his excuses for 2014! I really don’t know how he still has his job! Who sacks Schumi and Kimi? Only to rehire Kimi 5 years later? Utterly daft.

  • Alonso_is_Slow

Alonso cannot win without the best car. Complete waste of money.

  • Malcolm

StevetheGreat….right on the money, Luca is not only an a’hole as you say, bur a complete DUMBASS not to even mention Kimi.

  • O’Ferrari

Why does he need to discuss the new number two? Fernando needs to win and kimi needs to wobble around and pick up points.

What more needs to be said?

(Sorry. I had to troll a little bit)

  • Kimi4WDC

He had three. But of course this year was cut short by tyre change. So two would be more correct.

Alonso won 5 or 6 races in 2012 w/o the best car you bleeding imbecile. again you’re facts are worst than lies, in 5 post you put in these forum, 6 barely comes close to being true. a natural idiot you really are.

  • Kimi4WDC

    @Taskmaster

You underestimate the drivers, you can put a 50 years old champion into a go-kart and you will see straight away how energetic and fast they are compare to much younger drivers.

Current drivers in such good shape both physically and mentally that I would not think age does anything too them even at 40. Schumacher in Monaco Qualifying 2012 is perfect example.

  • farizY

    Isn’t this stating the obvious?

  • TWD

best car only for alonso…whatabout kimi?

  • stoner

Kimi will take the best car that montezemelo gives to nando and win the championship right under their nose.

  • O’Ferrari

    @stoner

Lets wait and see. Massa and grosjean have both managed to upset kimi’s apple cart.

Let’s see how he does against a top driver.

  • sebolonso

Monte does it absolutely in a correct way. First he gives farewell credit to the double losers 4 Years in a row. Then he sends message to Santander Bank, about next Years equipment. Next Years finance needs to be secured. Lightning strikes down when next season starts. Kimi will wipe the floor…guess with what:).

  • O’Ferrari

I think we are all missing tge most important issue here.

Who the fcuk let Alonso out in public wearing that jumper?

  • tod

Kimi will show Alonso how to drive even if Alonso is given the better car etc.
    Why?
Because Kimi is the better driver & next WDC!!!

yes, Alonso has won 0 titles without the best car.

    you loser….

  • Dr. Azlan

It all boils down to the car. It’s the car. It’s all about the car. Ferrari haven’t got the car.

  • O’Ferrari

Kimi: about to get his ass handed to him yet again.
