Pirelli F1 boss Paul Hembery apologised after hitting back at comments made by Fernando Alonso in Korea last weekend.

Spaniard Alonso had questioned the “quality” of Pirelli’s 2013 tyres.

Hembery hit back: “I can only suggest he goes to ask the soon-to-be four time champion how to get the best from the same tyres.”

In the wake of the pointed retort, “We invited Paul for a chat,” Ferrari’s Alonso is quoted by the Brazilian newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper.

“He accepted, he came, he apologised and we understand [each other] now. It seems strange with the season they are having that they speak up, but, as I said, he apologised,” he added.

Alonso, however, insists that the mid-season change of tyre construction particularly hurt Ferrari’s performance.

And “Force India is now struggling for points,” he explained.

“I also remember Sauber struggling not to [fall] out of qualifying in Q1, and now they’re fighting out the front of the race,” he added.

Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali admitted that he sees both sides of the story.

“It is important to take the complaints of drivers seriously to help [Pirelli] do a better job,” he is quoted by Speed Week. ”But I also see Pirelli’s position, because if they are not given the chance to test, that’s not right.”

And so he should apologise. Alonso was simply pointing out that the tyres are high degrading something Bernie specified. The childish rebuke by Hembery with the Vettel remark given it was Red Bull that pressed hardest for a tyre change to which they subsequently benefited was just about the most pathetic thing Pirelli could have said. I have always defended them as it was Bernie who made them produce these crap high degrading tyres but if they cant even see how Red Bull benefited and then use them as their poster boys in any rebuttal then they certainly lost my respect too. Given the comments on here for months I think I was the last supporter they had!

The teams specified the tyres that Pirelli were contracted by the FIA to supply … Some teams and drivers are simply making better use of them.

“The teams specified the tyres that Pirelli were contracted by the FIA to supply … Some teams and drivers are simply making better use of them.”

I was also actually surprised at Paul Hembery’s rebuttal. He has always been a diplomat. and mentioning Vettel not RB was a direct attack on Alonso.

    but anyway,

Hembery hit back: “I can only suggest he goes to ask the soon-to-be four time champion how to get the best from the same tyres.”

come to think of it wasthat RB he meant or Sebastien Vettel?

It was the least he could do… with his reaction to the words of Alonso Hembery has absolutely exceeded the limit.
