Red Bull’s Mark Webber and Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus will be working with new Formula One race engineers this season after their previous ones swapped teams.

Red Bull said that Ciaron Pilbeam, who has worked with Webber since 2007, had taken a new role at Lotus while Raikkonen’s 2012 race engineer Simon Rennie had moved in the opposite direction to team up with Webber.

Rennie was previously a race engineer with double world champion Fernando Alonso at Renault, the team that is now Lotus, as well as Poland’s Robert Kubica.

Last season he was famously rebuffed by 2007 champion Raikkonen, with the words”Leave me alone, I know what I’m doing” during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Raikkonen later gave all the Lotus employees T-shirts with “Just leave me alone, I know what I’m doing” written on them.

Drivers spend much of their grand prix weekends with their race engineers, working together on the set up of the car and strategy. (Reuters)

does this mean that kimi will be going to redbull in 2014? or a possible kimi/mark swap.

  • Wardski

To be honest, I don’t think Ciaron was working for Webber. He’s made some seriously poor mistakes that have cost Webber a number of races. A fresh start could make a massive improvement (or quite the opposite) for Webber. I think he certainly needs more help from the pit wall to even think about challenging Vettel

does the race engineer decide on the clutch settings for the race starts ?

hope this provides Mark a fresh change that will see him fight for the title consistently.

Aw no now Kimis going to start loosing just like Webber always does.Dam guy cant tune Webbers car properly wich is plain to see when you see how fast Vettels car starts and how Webbers spins around at the start! This is terrible news for me I dont think Kimi should let a Pilbeam near his car!
