F1 drivers to pay more for their FIA super license

6 November, 2012

FIA Logo.Nov.6 (GMM) The cost of a Formula One driver’s mandatory FIA Super License is going up, the Times newspaper reports.

It emerged in Abu Dhabi last weekend that teams have been told by the governing body that the price of their official entry fees for the 2013 season are definitely going to increase significantly.

Journalist Kevin Eason said Red Bull’s success this year is likely to bring the team a more than $3 million FIA bill for 2013, while even straggler HRT is facing a minor increase to the flat rate.

“[FIA president Jean] Todt is on a mission to fill the FIA’s coffers and is thought to be trying to raise an extra $40 million,” he wrote.

F1 drivers will also have to contribute, with Eason saying the cost of their super license is facing “massive hikes”.

Jenson Button reportedly paid $200 000 for his credential when he won the title in 2009, but this year’s champion looks set to pay “twice that amount”, Eason revealed.

    I suggest

For example current fee is $200,000 across the board and broken down as follows – per driver:

I suggest they look at 3 things:
1: Drivers standing end of the season ($80,000)
2: Team standing end of the season ($40,000)
3: Team/driver combined penalties counted at end of the season ($80,000)

Special condition: “negative results in drug testing”, then no license renewal till ban is finished.

    1:
All top 10 drivers renewal at 120% of current fees.
All 11-20 drivers renewal at 110% of current fees.
All 21-last drivers renewal at 100% of current fees.

    2:
All top 5 teams renewal at 120% of current fees.
All 6-10 teams renewal at 110% of current fees.
All 11-last teams renewal at 100% of current fees.

    3:
All teams with less than 5 penalties 80% of current fees.
All teams with 6-10 penalties 120% of current fees.
All teams with 11-25 penalties 150% of current fees.
All teams with over 26 penalties 200% of current fees.

For example Vettel wins the title and has 10 penalties
    1: 120%*$80,000 = $96,000
    2: 120%*$40,000 = $48,000
    3: 120%*$80,000 = $96,000

    New fee: $240,000
