Red Bull’s alternator problems return at Monza
8 September, 2012
Sep.8 (GMM) Red Bull’s alternator problem, which struck while Sebastian Vettel was comfortably leading the European GP earlier this year, is back to haunt the team, this time at Monza.
“It’s the same problem as Valencia,” Helmut Marko told Auto Bild Motorsport.
At Valencia, the Renault/Magneti Marelli alternator failed, costing Vettel victory, while a similar problem also struck Romain Grosjean in the Renault-powered Lotus.
Renault’s Cyril Dumont said, “I would like to apologise to Sebastian, as we had an issue in FP3 during his last run. We had an alternator failure, which meant he wasn’t able to do a run on the option tyres.”
Dumont appeared to contradict Marko’s statement, “We have to investigate exactly where the issue is coming from, as this was a later spec of alternator compared to when we had this issue in Valencia.”
