Apr.16 (GMM) Jaime Alguersuari has admitted he is not sure if he will be able to return to Formula 1 next year.

After his ousting at Toro Rosso, the young Spaniard is keeping up appearances in the paddock this year as a co-commentator for British radio.

And he recently signed on as Pirelli’s new F1 test driver.

But “Everyone knows the desire I have to return to competition,” Alguersuari is quoted by the Spanish sports daily AS.

“Honestly, right now, today, I don’t know where I will be in 2013.

“If I cannot be competing next year then I will try to continue the path of my life somewhere that will make me happy,” he added.

When Toro Rosso’s new drivers slumped in qualifying last weekend, the similarly-deposed Sebastien Buemi made the point that, in Shanghai a year ago, he and Alguersuari had been in Q3.

As for whether he would be doing a better job now than Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne, Alguersuari said: “I’ll let you answer that question.”

And as for the likely 2012 champion, he added: “I’d bet on one of the McLarens as I think their car is very consistent, generating more downforce than the others and with two very good drivers.

“But it’s still open,” said the 22 year old.

Jaime is far smarter than Buemi. He doesn’t say ignorant things. Nor did he really bitch or moan when things didn’t go his way. He’ll probably have to work his way back on the grid as a team’s test driver, but I have no doubt he’ll be back in some fashion. As for Buemi, if he doesn’t shut the hell up, Red Bull will most likely can him.

Alguersuari could teach Vettel and Buemi how to respond on the political side of things, note he has never said a bad word about Red Bull but he had a small dispute with Marko about I think it was holding up Vettel in quali.

@ McLarenfan – Alguersuari has negatively attacked both RBR drivers (remember him critisizing Vettel for only being as good as his car, and Webber when RBR resigned him for 2012) as well as giving Marko the 5hits.

I’m glad he’s screwed himself. For the last 3 seasons he’s been mediocre at best, and his total disrespect for the sport has not gone un-noticed.

No one wants him in their line-up as a result.
