Sep.22 (PVM) Despite denials from his management team, Kimi Raikkonen is being linked to a Williams drive in 2012 in place of Rubens Barrichello.
BBC report: “The Finn [Raikkonen] quit F1 at the end of 2009 to try his hand at world rallying but after two frustrating seasons he has had talks with Williams about joining them for 2012.”
The report adds, “But it is believed that Raikkonen is serious about returning to F1 after failing to match the pace of the front-runners in the World Rally Championship and he has few options.”
Autosport added weight to the rumours by writing, “It is understood that Raikkonen visited the Williams factory ahead of the Italian Grand Prix for talks with the team, as the former world champion eyes a return to racing in 2012.”
Barrichello, 40, has spent a large part of the season lobbying to stay on with Williams. he told Reuters, “The (Williams) team is changing engines, personnel is changing so… I think I have a lot to give to the team.”
