Ricciardo to test Toro Rosso before Bahrain
24 January, 2011
Jan.24 (PVM) Daniel Ricciardo has revealed that Toro Rosso have told him he will be driving during the preseason tests and in Friday practice at the season opening Grand Prix weekend in Bahrain.
Speaking to The West Australian newspaper, the Red Bull junior driver said, “I’m not sure what testing I’ll be doing. They’ve told me, the Toro Rosso guys, that I’ll be in the car for testing before Bahrain. I’m definitely driving in Bahrain on the Friday. It would be nice to be a bit more comfortable in the car and not have to be looking in the mirrors every corner.”
Ricciardo impressed in the end of season young drivers test in Abu Dhabi, topping the timing sheets in every session in the championship winning Red Bull RB6 which was driven by Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber in 2010. The performance contributed to him being appointed Red Bull reserve driver for 2011.
Apart from his Formula 1 duties he will again compete in the Formula Renault 3.5, where he finished runner-up last year.
Red Bull’s driver advisor Helmut Marko recently said that Ricciardo is being groomed for an F1 seat, a fact that the young Australian does not take for granted, “If I have a bad year this year, I’m sure he’ll change his mind. I’m always excited to start a season. I’m sure once Bahrain comes around it’ll be quite a good feeling coming through me,” said Ricciardo.
