Oct.9 (GMM) Bernie Ecclestone has welcomed reports Porsche is considering entering formula one in 2013.

“It sounds absolutely great,” the F1 chief executive told Bild newspaper by telephone, having not travelled to Japan this weekend.

“Whatever I can do to make it happen, I will,” added the 79-year-old Briton from London.

Porsche officials have already announced that a decision to enter formula one could only be taken if the FIA’s plans for a ‘World Engine’ come about.

Bild said the board of Porsche’s parent Volkswagen will meet early next month to make a decision.

Fellow German carmaker Mercedes’ motor racing vice president Norbert Haug commented: “I have no idea whether Porsche are going to come.

“If they do, congratulations and all the best. If not, that’s a shame,” said the German.

Rumours in Suzuka are that Honda will make a return if the new engine regulations are passed, however Ferrari and Mercedes are blocking the new rules, maybe they fear Porsche and Honda.

If Porsche, VW, Honda, or anyone else wants to play, play by the set of rules they have. Saying I want to get in the game, but only if you change the rules is child like. These guys want a new formula to make it even or fair. You don’t get a trophy for participation in F1. This is a competition. These companies could be developing a V8 right now for next year or 2012, but they would rather wait and see if the changes can be forced upon the current teams?? WTH? Sounds like they are afraid of not being the best. Well, if it was easy, everyone would be doin it. :) I say to Porsche and the rest, put up or shut up.
